Now that we’ve officially marked the start of summer and family travel will be at its peak, Hotel Allegro Chicago is offering their littlest guests something special this summer. Between Memorial Day (now) through Labor Day, the Allegro has a playground of perks available to kids including a new  Pop-Up Museum Exhibit Series called Magic of the Museums. “Kids Rule” at Hotel Allegro. All kid guests enjoy:

  • A Kimpton Kids bag including a mix of kid-friendly items
  • Kids 12 & under eat free at 312 Chicago for breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Join us every Friday and Saturday between 4:30-5:30PM in the lobby for our Summer Museum Series: Magic of the Museums. Each week a different local museum will host a pop-up exhibit or activity for kids while they enjoy complimentary lemonade and snacks. Our museum partners include Chicago History Museum, Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum, Adler Planetarium and more! More details provided below.

More About Our Summer Museum Series:  Magic of the Museums*
Summer travel is meant for adventure, discovery and fun! This summer we are helping our littlest guests uncover the treasures of the City by bringing a small piece of the magic local museums have to offer right to their fingertips! Each week, a local museum will host a Pop-Up Exhibit in our lobby that will highlight a fun-filled exploratory experience both kids and parents alike will enjoy!

*Please note, all children must be accompanied by an adult.

 

WHEN:
Every Friday and Saturday from 4:30PM – 5:30PM
Beginning June 6 and ending August 30, 2014

 

WHERE:

WHO & WHAT:
The Chicago History Museum (June 6-7 and June 13-14):

Pop-Up Exhibit:  Kites!
Whooosh!  Chicago is known as The Windy City, so what better activity than to create and fly a kite with the Chicago History Museum? We’ll provide an assortment of craft materials for you to design and decorate your kite with your favorite city landmarks.  Let’s go fly a kite and discover the true meaning of The Windy City!

 

The Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum (June 20-21 and June 27-28)

  • Pop-Up Exhibit (Fridays):  Skulls, Furs and Bones, Oh My! For over the 150 years, the Chicago Academy of Sciences and its’ Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum has been collecting natural specimens- fur pelts, bones, fossils and preserved animals of all sorts. Join us to see and touch real scientific specimens. Find out how scientists learn about animals from these artifacts. You might even get the chance to see a couple of live animals as well.

 

  • Pop-Up Exhibit (Saturdays):  Animals Up Close! The Nature Museum is not just about preserved specimens (dead things). Meet at least two live animals from the Nature Museum’s collections! See and touch a native turtle. Hold mealworms and darkling beetles. Learn how the way an animal’s body is shaped helps it to survive.

 

The Field Museum (July 18-19 and July 25-26)

  • Pop-Up Exhibit:  Live Bugs! Get up close with real live bugs during a special presentation from The Field Museum’s Jim Louderman, a Collections Assistant from the Insect Division.  Hold a live tarantula, learn about how scorpion’s glow in the dark, or observe Madagascar hissing cockroaches.  Learn the importance of insects to our environment, and get a glimpse into some of the work The Field Museum’s scientists and researchers do every day!

 

The Shedd Aquarium (August 8-9 and August 15-16) 

  • Pop-Up Exhibit:  Stingray Touch! How do you think a stingray feels? Soft, like a pillow? Squishy, like a marshmallow? How about scratchy, like sandpaper? There’s only one way to find out — at Shedd’s Stingray Touch experience. Dip your hand into a shallow tropical pool and discover the unique texture and movement of a school of stingrays as these fascinating fish glide through the water in Shedd’s first outdoor environment. You’ll also learn how we care for all of the stingrays living at Shedd and how your actions can protect them in the wild.
  • Other partners include the Museum of Science and Industry  and  Adler Planetarium.
